PRE-EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION INFORMATION

We appreciate your interest in employment with the Metro Special Police Department (MSPD). Our department employs many talented and diverse full-time and part-time employees who protect and serve our clients in the District of Columbia.


Comprehensive Benefits:


For Fiscal Year 2026, the hiring wage scale for a sworn member of MSPD is listed below depending on their respective rank. These wages have a minimum and maximum wage rate that is dependent on applicant's education, foreign language skills, and prior work history in the military, law enforcement, corrections, or private security. 


◾ Deputy Commissioner: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year.

◾ Commander: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year.

◾ Colonel: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year.

◾ Major: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year.

◾ Captain: $67,500.00 - $70,000.00 per year.

◾ 1st Lieutenant: $65,000.00 - $67,500.00 per year.

◾ 2nd Lieutenant: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year.

◾ Master Sergeant: $29.00 - $31.00 per hour.

◾ Sergeant: $27.50 - $29.00 per hour.

◾ Master Corporal: $27.00 - $27.50 per hour.

◾ Corporal: $26.50 - $27.00 per hour.

◾ Private First Class: $26.00 - $26.50 per hour.

◾ Field Training Officer: $25.00 - $26.00 per hour.

◾ Entry Level Special Police Officer: $24.00 - $25.00 per hour.


Note: Effective 07/01/2025, upon completion of 6 months of probation, hourly employees receive a 0.50 raise. Upon completion of 12 months of employment, hourly employees receive another 0.50 raise totaling $1.00 extra in the first 12 months of employment. Hourly employees earn 40 hours of paid time off (PTO) upon successful completion of 12 months of employment. Hourly employees earn an additional 40 hours of PTO upon successful completion of 24 months of employment. Max PTO is 80 hours. PTO can be cashed out if an employee meets the requirements.
