Pre-Employment Character Reference

It is the Metro Special Police Department's (MSPD) policy to conduct a fair and thorough background investigation on each applicant that submits an application for employment to our agency. As a part of the background investigation, MSPD requires an applicant to provide the names and contact information of three (3) individuals who can provide in-depth details about their character.  These individuals are usually a current co-worker of the applicant, a former co-worker, a friend, a neighbor, a church member, ect. Relatives and family members are not counted as character references because of the perception of bias.

The applicant has signed a legally binding Hold Harmless and Release of Information Agreement allowing us to collect information about them for the purpose of our pre-employment background investigation. The information that you provide us will remain confidential and will not be shared with the applicant.

Due to the special relationship of trust between citizens and police in the society, MSPD strives to hire the best of the best candidates that would help us accomplish our mission and maintain that high level of trust between citizens. Your name has been listed on a pre-employment application with our agency to provide a character reference. Your feedback is important to us as we consider an applicant for hiring with our agency. The below "Character Reference Questionnaire" is your opportunity to provide us feedback on the applicant and their morals, values, character, and work ethic. Not everyone is qualified to serve in a public safety capacity or civilian staff member with MSPD. Therefore, we need your feedback as we consider this applicant.

The below "Character Reference Questionnaire" takes about 10 minutes or less to fill out and submit to us.
